From the recording Until You Get There
This is somewhat retrospective of my life, or at least the first couple verses are. Sometimes it is hard to know what you should be doing in life and sometimes we just don’t know until we find what we are looking for. Life can have a way of showing us or directing us if we just keep moving forward. This song evokes a drive and urgency.
Lyrics
Until You Get There - Johnny P. Johnson
The boy was 22 years old
When he came to a fork in the road
Didn’t know where to turn so he sat there
He thought he should go west
Then he thought east might be best
So he just started driving
He didn’t get that far
Until he stopped the car and he turned around and went the other way
Then he drove all night
And things felt so right
Then he knew he was on his way
Sometimes you don’t know where you’re going
Sometimes you don’t know what you’re doing
Sometimes you don’t know where you’re going
Until you get there
Until you get there
Until you there
Until you get here
The man was middle age
When he turned a new page
He lost his job at the firm
It’s all that he ever knew
That’s all he could ever do
So he just started driving
Sometimes you don’t know where you’re going
Sometimes you don’t know what you’re doing
Sometimes you don’t know where you’re going Until you get there
Until you get there
Until you get there
Until you get there
The man was getting old
So he’d been told
He didn’t feel all that different
He had so much to do
Before his precious time was through
So he just started driving
Sometimes you don’t know where you’re going
Sometimes you don’t know what you’re doing
Sometimes you don’t know where you’re going Until you get there
Until you get there
Until you get there
Until you get there
Don’t know where you’re going
Don’t know what you’re doing
Don’t know where you’re going
Until you get there
Until you get there
Until you get there
Don’t know where you’re going
Until you get there
Until you get there
Until you get there
Until you get there
Until you get there
